Artist's Statement

The work shown on this page is sculpture I created during my senior year of art school and the following six months after graduation. My theme centered on childhood memories and trauma. I used toys as metaphors for manipulation, control, pain, entrapment and the loss of innocence too quickly. Some of my favorite characters were bears, rabbits, deer and dolls. Frequently I would disable them in some way, either by removing their arms, head or mummification. Beyond the therapeutic exorcising of inner demons through this creative process, I was also interested in different sculptural techniques. I was fascinated with textures, materials and construction.
