The Leek That Ate My Fridge, or, How Many Vegetables Can I Really Eat?

I joined us up for the a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) program and now the bottom half of my fridge is residence for an abundance of veggies and my freezer soon to fill up. We are getting our produce from Full Belly Farm. But here’s the real kicker: I’ve been eating them too. Even the beets and I’d never had leeks until the first week. Every Wednesday I grab my oversized KQED canvas bag, hop on my scooter and on my way home from work I stop at this nondescript house with a porch. Sign by my name on the list, choose a box and start to fill the bag. This week there were so many veggies that they completely filled the bag. Which fits a lot.

I also got myself some veggie oriented cookbooks to help Jake and I consume our bounty. In one of the pictures, check out the size of that leek! There’s a dime next to it for comparison. The picture with the beets is from week 1. And associated condition with eating beets, beeturia. No link for you. You’ll just have to Google it. It’s weird enough as it is.
