Dummy delight
It’s only the end of Saturday but I’ve accomplished a major goal nagging at me. Build a dressmaker’s dummy, er…. form.
So I stood still and let Jake wrap me in duct tape. Yes, this does seem like a wild thing that a couple might do on a sunny Saturday, but honestly it was a lot of work. He was focused on getting the tape to lay right and I was trying not to feel the pain in my back and knees from standing still for almost two hours. When he finally cut the thing off, my relief and pain were great.
Needless to say, while the cost of this form and project might be economical, there is still a price to pay. I spent the rest of the day stuffing and tweeking the shape. It’s close, but still a slightly amorphous Mia. Then I stood back to reflect upon it and wasn’t very happy about seeing my lumpy shape in the 3D before me. So, sewers who wish to make the duct tape dummy beware. You may not like what you see if you have body image concerns. But once i’m past that, I think that some interesting things will take shape on it. If nothing else, I won’t have to undress and redress every time I need to fit or tailor something.
The second picture is the sweatshirt I’m working on for Jake. Alas, I hate the zipper and it’s all a bit too snug. So I’m reworking it. He likes the color and the letters though. I am beginning to hate zippers through and through. I can never find the right lengths in the right colors and twice now I’ve chosen zippers that don’t separate for items that need the separation. Gah! I think I will just be more creative with buttons.
We also went to Bakesale Betty’s this afternoon. My whole digestive system was happy, starting with my taste buds. We had fried chicken sandwiches that have an excellent slaw topping and cookies. Fortunately, we arrived before the line started to snake out the door.
Before our yummy treat, we took Bear cat to the vet for his last vaccine. I’ve never seen the staff fall all over fawning over a pet before. The vet and technician were quite taken with Bear’s charming self, and believe me, he worked it for all he was worth. He oozed and purred and was fluffy and goofy. The vet tried to listen to his heart with me wishing her luck since the previous vet couldn’t since he purrs so hard. He wasn’t scared, he just loves being the center of attention. Anyway, my clown of a kitten is a hit. BTW, he almost fell out of the loft again yesterday and was hanging on by his claws until I rescued him.
I should have been resting today, but I can’t seem to do so. My head has been all cottony with a cold and my throat hurts off and on. Last night I had my first bloody nose in ages. (you really wanted to know that!) Whatever.
PS. all pictures in the post were taken with the iPhone. heh.
